Um fjárkláðann um 1860. Þá var niðurskurður og pössuðu bændur fé til þess að þurfa ekki að skera niður. Jón Þorsteinsson á Fossi lét gæta fjár á Byrgieyri í Fosslandi og skar ekki niður. Nokkrir bændur létu byrgja Byrgishvamm og þar geymdu þeir fé. Skera átti niður allt geldfé en ekki bornar kindur.
