På Ommestrup mark er der en sø, der kaldes Kul sø. Det er et urimeligt dybt hul, og vandet er så kulsort som tjære. En gammel mand i byen, Søren Smed, prøvede om vinteren på isen at nå bunden, idet han lånte alle de reb, han kunde få i Ommestrup by, og bandt sammen, hængte et langjærn i enden af dem og lod det så gå ned, men kunde alligevel ingen bund nå....
